In the 1950's, 60's and 70’s many believers in mainline denominational churches were baptized in the Holy Spirit. A need was seen by some of these for a church where they could worship the Lord in the liberty of the Holy Spirit, allowing the gifts of the Spirit to flow according to the Word of God to grow toward maturity and reach others in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  In such a climate, New Covenant Church of Thomasville, Georgia was born and legally incorporated in May 1975.

New Covenant Church began with 20 members with three members in the office of ruling elder. In the fall of 1975, the congregation called Pastor James Armstrong to lead the church. Initially worship services were held in a home and a borrowed building. In 1978 the church purchased a house for its worship and other activities. Continued growth made it necessary to purchase a church building from a disbanding congregation in 1981.

In September 1984 the founding pastor retired and a second pastor, George Waller, was called. Soon growth made it necessary to look for additional space for the congregation. By March 1987, a 15-acre site at the intersection of US 19 and the North Thomasville By-pass had been purchased and an 8000 sq. ft. building was constructed and dedicated. In 1989 another 8000 sq. ft. building was built which included Sunday school rooms, a large nursery, a fellowship room and a kitchen.

In 1995, Steve Bradshaw was called as Senior Pastor.  He implemented many positive changes. In December 2000 the church completed a 15,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility, the Armstrong Outreach Center, which included a basketball/volleyball court, a large kitchen, game room, youth room, offices and classrooms. The Church has a Wednesday night supper each week in the gym for food, fellowship and teaching.

In 2002, Barry Perez was called as Senior Pastor. Pastor Barry has placed particular emphasis on One Groups (small group ministry) as well as developing membership unity and maturity through as series on Discovery classes, ministry retreats, and the Master’s Commission Institute.

In the autumn of 2010, Dave Allen was called as Senior Pastor. Since that time, he and his wife Alli, have brought a diverse blend of ministry styles, ministering love, and compassion. They share a ministry of oneness and a stong passion to see each person realize their destiny in God as they advance God's Kingdom in Thomas County and globally.

New Covenant Church staff have grown to include a professional staff made up of an Sr. Pastor, Administrative Pastor, Hospitality Pastor, Youth Pastor, Children’s Pastor,  Women's  Pastor, as well as  youth interns,  secretaries and a custodian.

Other New Covenant ministries include Life Enrichment teams, Prophetic ministry, Christian Restoration Ministries, Counseling, restoration of the arts in worship (banners, Israeli dance team, mime teams, etc.), short-term missions trips, and prison ministry.
